The best way to combat the mainstream media is to buy music, movies, magazines, and newspapers only from alternative media, independent studios, and record labels. Sell/trade any DVDs and CDs you have from the big 6 media conglomerates. Don't use myspace or IGN which are owned by Fox. Give up a little so your kids don't have to give up a lot.

What I am saying is that government regulation won't work! I don't want government regulation on the internet! Music would be something the government would use to take over the internet and then start abusing their power just like everything else. If someone has a copyright on their music then they have the right to stop the sell and use of their music....this is not government regulation, this is enforcment of property rights! The regulation we are talking about is much more than music!

But wasn't the DMCA updated in 2003? I remember John Stossel interviewing CEO Cary Sherman on 20/20 in March 2003---in his "Give Me A Break". Still, whether it was the DMCA or not, it has devestated the entertainment industry. And to make matters worse, other countries are doing the same.

...I hate to break it to you, but those ideas will not save the mainstream media. Once you buy something, they will try to make you buy more & more. Music is sometimes inelastic, which means price will continue to go up even if more people buy it. These monoploy organizations don't give a crap for the consumers. If you want to fight back against these Corruptables, you better speak with your State Representative to pass a legislation to repeal this law that is crippling the media.

Although in an ideal world their would be no state the simple reality is that in the absence of government another group of powerful men would rise to power.
